I hope the week has begun well for you! Sunday was a joy in so many ways: music at Upper Sackville, an engaging conversation at Sackville followed by Beer and Hymns at Ducky’s later in the evening! I so enjoy seeing folk connect with each other and contribute to the building of faithful community through dialogue, laughter, singing and yes, even tears.
As we enter this new week I am mindful of the Pauley family grieving the death of Orland. Join with me in holding them in care. I am also mindful of the Commissioners who are preparing the 43rdGeneral Council and all of the folk who are devoting countless hours to Transition Committees across the county as Presbyteries and Conference prepare for the new structure that will begin January 1st with the implementation of the remits at General Council.
Today I spent the morning at EB Changer Jr. High (where Jennifer teaches) cooking 350+ burgers for the children there… and I am mindful of students there and elsewhere who are finishing their school term in the coming days: some who are making plans for further education in the fall, others who are preparing to enter the workforce and others, who sadly, will not have the ‘safe place’ of school for the next two months and will do their level best to survive the summer…
With summer solstice past the days will become shorter and our opportunities to do good as the light shines will diminish. It is my hope and prayer that as summer enfolds you that you are reminded again and again of the goodness of creation and find ways to celebrate that goodness and to share it with others!
Today, after my time at the school I attended the meeting of Chignecto Presbytery in Amherst followed by a visit to the local hospital and a pastoral visit and a meeting of the SUC Executive. Tomorrow I am in the office in the morning, at meetings in the afternoon and taking part in the General Council webinar in the evening. You can join in too! Here is the link to register. I had kept Wednesday free to travel to PEI to be with my dad as my mom underwent hip replacement surgery. Unfortunately mom’s surgery has been postponed – but – I may, if the weather is nice go over and spend the day with them anyways. On Thursday I have two visits scheduled and a conference call with the other General Council Commissioners from Maritime Conference. All things being equal I hope to have Friday and Saturday as down time…
Remember, on Sunday July 1stour gathering begins at 10AM. There is only one service on the Pastoral Charge – at Sackville United Church! Hope to you can join us as part of your Canada Day celebrations!
