It is good to be home. It was a gift to have the time away last week but, it is even better to return home rested and renewed on the cusp of summer with all that it has to offer us – and, to be truthfully I really am looking forward to a bit of a break!
My vacation will run from July 15th to July 28th and August 5th to 18th. The Worship and Sanctuary Committee has arrange Pulpit Supply for the four Sundays I will be absent. I am looking forward to being with the community on August 4th for our 3rd Annual Pancakes and Prayers ‘to go’ event in conjunction with SappyFest!
But, before vacation there are a few weeks that include some special Sunday events – beginning with this Sunday where at the 11AM gathering at Sackville United Church we will mark the beginning of the Summer Pause for the Sunday School and celebrate all that we share in community. The service will be followed with a community bbq and cake auction to kick off our fund-raising efforts in respect to the replacement of the windows in the building. Hope to see you there!
On Sunday June 23th Upper Sackville United Church will hold their final service before pausing for the summer months. Following the 9AM gathering there will be a traditional summer tea! Come for the service and stay for the sweets! Sackville United Church will gather at 11AM for this Sunday and beginning Sunday June 30th will move to 10AM.
On Sunday June 30th @ 10AM Catherine Priemer and others that the Sackville United Church supported in attending the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in NYC, April 18th-26th 2019. It is also highly likely that we will get to welcome Rose Kabenyondo as she will arrive in Canada on June 26th!
Please follow this link to a complete schedule of dates for the summer months, including Beer and Hymns!
The rest of the week will be a little scattered for me. Tomorrow I’ll be working in the afternoon and evening and on Thursday I’ll be taking the day to go and visit my Dad who is in hospital. On Friday morning as I return from the Island I hope to stop in Port Elgin for the committal service for Jennie Oulton, a fellow prison Chaplain and United Church minister before heading to Moncton to pick up supplies for our bbq on Sunday.
Saturday is the Amherst/Cumberland Pride Parade and while we thought that the Queer Room participants were entering a float – that has not transpired. So, while we do not have a float – anyone from the pastoral charge who would like to get their pride colours on and walk as a body – lets meet in front of the Victoria Square Cenotaph at 1:45 to walk together! I will bring the banner and some flags!
And on Sunday… the Pentecost story continues: 9AM @ Upper Sackville United and 11AM @ Sackville United, followed by burgers and hot dogs (beef and veggie) and cake and a cake auction! Hope to see you there!
